The Fortnight Spin: Moscow Entertainment

Of you could stay in the center and see British stadium house band UTAH SAINTS (October 5, Solyanka, 23:00). I don't know which is odder: that the Saints are still making music, or that anyone in Moscow (or anywhere else) gives a fuck about them. Sadly, promoters were trying to bring CHROMEO for this party, but that fell through, and look what we get instead: pure shit. Despair not: Chromeo is coming in November.

Although the indie explosion feels like a relatively recent thing, it's important to remember that the revived Krizis Zhanra helped set things in motion two years ago by giving the city's half-dozen Britpop bands a place to play. Over and over, weekend after weekend. Sure, the lineups are often interchangable, but the important thing was that the kids had a place to play. Anyway, KRIZIS ZHANRA'S SECOND BIRTHDAY (October 5-6, 23:00) is spread over two nights, with Britain's MAD STARING EYES the special guests on day one. Other guests on day one are BLAST, MY SILVER REVOLVER and FRENCH WHORE NAMED BABETTE, while day two features CROUPIER, BLAST, MILANA and THE TIPI. Rock ' roll.

Finally, local post-rock heroes SILENCE KIT (October 7, Ikra, 21:00) closes out this fortnight, giving us all another opportunity to pick up their new album. I was at their album release show, but got sidelined by the gig's promoter, who forced me to drink a half bottle of Jameson's with him, so I don't remember much of it. Say La Vee.
